Prayer Request
To my beloved family in Christ
My name is Michael Heil, I have lived in Utah my whole life and I was raised in the American Fork Community Presbyterian church. As I’ve grown up God has gracefully helped me grow closer to him, our merciful father has shown me that “true saints are perfectly united in the same mind and in the same judgement.”(1 corinthians 1 KJV) that “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all” and that we must “make every effort to keep ourselves united in the spirit.” (Ephesians 4:4-6) Here in Utah this is something that really affects us all the time, God calls for unity and that’s the only way that any of us can step forward in our faith and in His works. We need each other and I humbly write you today knowing that I need the body of Christ and asking for your help in assisting me so that I may follow the plan that God has laid out in my life. In all four of the Gospels the last and only command that Jesus gave us after his resurrection was to “go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.”(Mathew 28:18, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47) He ordained this because it is what fulfills and gives reason to all of His other commandments. Listening to and obeying this last request is the way that He has asked us to put His commands into practice.
It is Gods will that we be sent and we as His children all have been blessed with an important role in helping to make this will happen. “just as the Father sent me, I send you.” (John 20:21) God has laid this message heavy on my heart, it is the reason that I now write you. Scripture tells us that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?”(Romans 10:14-15) God has chosen to send me, but I can’t do His will on my own, I need your help. I know that God has chosen to send some of us and that He has put others into positions where they can do the sending, but regardless of the role God has given you and I, we are in this together, and it is absolutely essential that we listen to our callings. I’m not saying that your call is to help me, it’s not my place to say that, all I can say is that I need your help, that I can’t do God’s will on my own. (John 20:21)
God made His calling for my life clear through a death defying accident, His merciful miracles are the only reason I’m alive right now and the way that he pieced my broken life back together is the way that He lead me, called me, and prepared me for the mission that He has blessed me with. I’ve been accepted into the Transform Transit Challenge, a 5 month mission organized through the agency Operation Mobilization which has been at work spreading God’s word since 1957. Throughout the whole world only two teams of 7 people get accepted to be a part of this mission each year, and God has chosen to allow me to contribute to one of those teams. In the past 50 years God has used Operation Mobilization to establish ministries in over 110 countries, the specific mission that I’m going on will be in transit, working within and amongst the ministries that have been established within these differing countries throughout the years. In many ways this mission replicates the ministry of Paul, our team will be traveling the Mediterranean as he did and like him we will be focusing on sharing the power of Christ through open air preaching, distribution of literature, visitations, counseling, healing, praying, evangelism, outreaches, community projects, physical labor, and in addition to these techniques we will also focus on helping rebellious youth and struggling children, as well as reaching negligent youth through a sports ministry. Our sole focus will be on Christ and letting Him use us in the way that He wants to use us; and with Christ’s words and deeds as our sword and shield we will set out this July to battle excessive poverty, addiction, drugs, violence and atheism; we will be working to bring the light of Christ into areas under Muslim dominion, areas full of Judaism.
“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.6 In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” (Romans 12:4-6) and Every skill God has gifted me, every experience God has used to teach me, and every struggle God has carried me through, all gave me wisdom which helped me to see that my biggest passion in life is sharing God’s word and deed’s, even further though, I saw that this is who God has made me to be, His servant. All of the things God taught me fulfilled the specifications necessary in order for me to become eligible for this mission. The way God has put things together is beautiful and I know that through the body He will continue to lay things out so that each of us can step forward in His works, but I also know that He calls us each to do our distinct parts in this and I know full well that it is as much my obligation as it is yours to strive contribute to the body in every way that we possibly can. I want to contribute by going on this mission and serving God for the next 6 months, but I also want to contribute something to you and your congregation if you would let me. Whether that is by giving updates on God’s work through this upcoming mission once it begins or sharing stories from my previous mission, whether it be through prayer or encouragement, volunteer work or communion. I would love to talk to you more about this, I would be so grateful to share the details of the beautiful and miraculous things that God has used to lead me to this opportunity. Thank you so much for your time, it means a lot to me just that you even read this “ The Lord bless you and keep you” (Numbers 6:24)
Your prayers are so valuable to me, please pray about this, if you feel inclined to contribute financially then I am grateful beyond explanation. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, I hope to be able to meet you before I go on my mission.
Sincerely, Michael Heil
